In the paintings that comprise the watercolor series “Extraordinary/Everyday,”
artist Kristen Colebank re-evaluates the minor vignettes that form the backdrop
of daily life in the small town of Wardensville, W.Va. The subjects of the works – storage sheds, isolated houses, alleys, and doorways – are so common that we figuratively become blind
to them. But within her carefully balanced compositions, Colebank demonstrates
that even the most humble objects and scenes are often extraordinary.
